The key figures from the survey

The monthly income Belgians would like to have
6.000€/month
The median price of happiness, in net monthly income

Two years ago, it stood at 5.500€. This net monthly income is a median: a household with one or two children would want an extra 1.000€ per month, per additional child.

The net worth Belgians would like to have
1.000.000€
The median net worth Belgians would like to have

In median terms, the happiness price in net worth has stayed constant from one barometer to the next: right at the symbolic million-euro mark. The self-employed have higher expectations than employees.

The biggest worry weighing on Belgians
17,7% Inflation
2
30,8% Geopolitics
1
15,6% Income
3

Regardless of income level, geopolitics ranks as Belgians’ top worry. Only the youngest respondents worry primarily about more concrete issues, such as inflation or the cost of housing.

The emotions Belgians associate with money
Security Freedom Peace of mind Comfort Health Satisfaction Flexibility Generosity Opportunity Joy Self-fulfillment Self-confidence Social recognition

Security is the top positive emotion that Belgians, both south and north of the language border, associate with money. Further down the ranking, differences start to emerge.

Where do you stand?

How can you reach financial happiness?

This survey proves it: the million, the first million, is considered by the median of the population as financial happiness. The good news is that this threshold may be more attainable than you think. Provided you invest regularly, in a diversified way, while minimizing your costs, time will grow your investment.
